Empire IP Sub Shows Its Hand in New Online Gambling Campaign
Computer Tracking Systems LLC, a subsidiary of monetization firm Empire IP LLC, has started a new campaign targeting online gambling companies, asserting two patents (6,666,768; 6,872,138) generally related to a gambling system that sets aside a fixed amount as part of every transaction. Defendants include Churchill Downs (2:16-cv-00762); Huuuge (2:16-cv-00764); Meadway Leisure, Morris Mohawk Gaming, and Salmon River Technologies (2:16-cv-00766); Midwest Gaming and Entertainment (2:16-cv-00765); and Penn National Gaming (2:16-cv-00767). The complaints each attempt to preempt an Alice challenge by arguing that the patents “resolve technical problems”, thus alluding to DDR Holdings without actually citing to the case itself.
