  • a receiver for receiving a selective call signal including message information and identification information identifying said message information that is stored in a system memory;

    a transmitter for transmitting signals to said system;

    a device memory for storing said message information and identification information;

    a user interface for receiving a first mode of operation erasure command and a second mode of operation erasure command from a user of the device; and

    a processor for receiving said commands from said user interface and configured to generate a first erase signal in response to receiving said first mode of operation erasure command and a second erase signal in response to receiving said second mode of operation erasure command, wherein;

    in response to said first erase signal, said processor is programmed to flag said message information stored in said device memory for erasure while maintaining said identification information in said device memory; and

    in response to said second erase signal, said processor is programmed to flag said message information and said identification information stored in said device memory for erasure and to cause said transmitter to transmit said second erase signal to the system for erasure of said message information and said identification information stored In said system memory.
