1. A method for providing an interactive representation of an object appearing in a visual media object comprising:

associating a visual media object appearing in a visual media source with a location on a computer network, wherein the visual media object includes a child object, allowing a viewer of the visual media object to access the location on the computer network;

providing an interactive electronic reproduction of at least a portion of the visual media object that includes the child object;

receiving control input from the viewer selecting the child object from the interactive electronic reproduction; and

displaying information concerning the child object to the viewer in response to the control input.

The present invention provides a system and method for enabling viewers of visual media objects to obtain additional information regarding such objects and child objects therein from interactive representations of the objects on a computer network.

1. A method for providing an interactive representation of an object appearing in a visual media object comprising:
- associating a visual media object appearing in a visual media source with a location on a computer network, wherein the visual media object includes a child object, allowing a viewer of the visual media object to access the location on the computer network;
  
  providing an interactive electronic reproduction of at least a portion of the visual media object that includes the child object;
  
  receiving control input from the viewer selecting the child object from the interactive electronic reproduction; and
  
  displaying information concerning the child object to the viewer in response to the control input.

- - 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the interactive electronic reproduction is a scaled exact electronic visual reproduction of the at least a portion of a visual media object appearing in the visual media source.
  - 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the location is a website on a wide area network.
  - 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the visual media source is a printed publication;
    - the visual media object is a visual image appearing on at least one page of the printed publication; and
      
      the child object is a commercially available product appearing in the visual media object.
  - 5. The method of claim 3, wherein the visual media source is a video source;
    - and the interactive electronic representation is selected from the group consisting of a still image or clip from the video source.
  - 6. The method of claim 3, wherein the interactive electronic reproduction is a still image from a television broadcast.
  - 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the child object is an image of a commercially available product appearing in a television program.
  - 8. The method of claim 3, wherein the interactive electronic reproduction is a video clip from a television broadcast.
  - 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the child object is an image of a commercially available product appearing in a television program.
  - 10. The method of claim 2, wherein the visual media source is selected from the group consisting of a magazine, catalog, newspaper, sign, poster, painting, book, mailing, television broadcast and motion picture.
  - 11. The method of claim 3, wherein the interactive electronic reproduction is a still image from a motion picture.
  - 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the child object is an image of a commercially available product appearing in the motion picture.
  - 13. The method of claim 3, wherein the interactive electronic reproduction is a video clip from a motion picture.
  - 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the child object is an image of a commercially available product appearing in a television program.
  - 15. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual media source is a print media source.
  - 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the print media source is selected from the group consisting of a magazine, catalog, newspaper, sign, poster, painting, book and mailing.
  - 17. The method of claim 3, wherein the visual media source is a print media source.
  - 18. The method of claim 17, wherein the print media source is selected from the group consisting of a magazine, catalog, newspaper, sign, poster, painting, book and mailing.
  - 19. The method of claim 1, wherein the visual media source is a video media source.
  - 20. The method of claim 18, wherein the video media source is selected from the group consisting of a television broadcast and a motion picture.
  - 21. The method of claim 3, wherein the visual media source is a video media source.

23. A method for providing an interactive representation of an object appearing in a visual media object comprising:
- associating a visual media object appearing in a visual media source with one or more files stored in a computer storage medium, wherein the visual media object includes a child object, providing an interactive electronic reproduction of at least a portion of the visual media object that includes the child object in response to the execution of at least one file of the one or more files;
  
  receiving control input to select the child object appearing in the interactive electronic reproduction; and
  
  providing information concerning the child object in response to the control input.
