receiving means for receiving a visual message transmitted to the device;

determining means for determining whether the received message includes information to be added to the directory, wherein the information comprises contact information; and

directory updating means for adding the information to the directory.

1. A device comprising a system for adding information to a directory stored in a memory of the device, the system comprising:
- receiving means for receiving a visual message transmitted to the device;
  
  determining means for determining whether the received message includes information to be added to the directory, wherein the information comprises contact information; and
  
  directory updating means for adding the information to the directory.

- - 2. The device of claim 1, wherein the visual message includes a header portion and a body portion, wherein the contact information is included in the body portion of the visual message.
  - 3. The device of claim 2, wherein the visual message is transmitted to the device using an electronic mail system.
  - 4. The device of claim 2, wherein the contact information includes an address.
  - 5. The device of claim 4, wherein the address is an electronic mail address.
  - 6. The device of claim 1, wherein the determining means and the directory updating means are implemented using a processor.
  - 7. The device of claim 1, wherein the receiving means comprises a receiver coupled to an antenna for receiving and transmitting information wirelessly.
  - 8. The device of claim 1, wherein if the determining determines that the received message includes information to be added to the directory, the directory updating means automatically adds the information to the directory.

9. A device comprising a system for updating a directory stored in a memory unit of the device, the system comprising:
- receiving means for receiving a visual message transmitted to the device;
  
  determining means for determining whether the received message includes a list of one or more entries to be added to the directory, wherein an entry comprises address information; and
  
  storing means, operable if the determining means determines that a received visual message includes a list of one or more entries to be added to the directory, for storing the entries in the directory.

- - 10. The device of claim 9, wherein the visual message includes a header portion and a body portion, wherein the address information is included in the body portion of the visual message.
  - 11. The device of claim 10, wherein the visual message is transmitted to the device using an electronic mail system.
  - 12. The device of claim 10, wherein the address information includes an address.
  - 13. The device of claim 12, wherein the address is an electronic mail address.
  - 14. The device of claim 9, wherein the determining means and the directory updating means are implemented using a processor.
  - 15. The device of claim 9, wherein the receiving means comprises a receiver coupled to an antenna for receiving and transmitting information wirelessly.
  - 16. The device of claim 9, wherein if the determining determines that the received message includes a list of one or more entries to be added to the directory, the directory updating means automatically adds the one or more entries to the directory.

17. A communication system, comprising:
- a first device for creating and sending a visual message, wherein said visual message comprises one or more names and comprises contact information associated with each of said one or more names; and
  
  a second device for receiving said visual message, wherein said second device comprises;
  
  a memory;
  
  a directory stored in said memory, said directory comprising a list of names; and
  
  a processor programmed to automatically add said one or more names and associated contact information to said directory.

- - 18. The communication system of claim 17, further comprising a system for receiving said visual message from said first device and for forwarding said visual message to said second device, wherein said system stores said one or more names and associated contact information in a memory within the system.
  - 19. The communication system of claim 18, wherein, before said system forwards said visual message to said second device, said system replaces said contact information in the visual message with a coded address, so that said visual message received by said second device comprises one or more names and associated coded addresses.
  - 20. The communication system of claim 18, wherein said system comprises:
    - means for receiving a name and an address from said second device;
      
      means for generating a coded address corresponding to said address; and
      
      means for transmitting said coded address to said second device, wherein said processor of said second device adds said coded address to said directory.
  - 21. The communication system of claim 17, wherein the visual message is an electronic mail message.
  - 22. The communication system of claim 17, wherein said memory is a component in which information may be inserted and stored and from which the information may be extracted.
  - 23. The communication system of claim 17, wherein said second device is a mobile device.
  - 24. The communication system of claim 17, wherein said contact information associated with one of said names consists of an electronic mail address.

25. A device, comprising:
- a data storage component that stores a contacts list, wherein the contacts list includes a list of names and, for each name, corresponding contact information, comprising;
  
  a receiver that receives a visual message transmitted to the device, the visual message including contact information;
  
  a memory for storing the visual message; and
  
  a processor programmed to obtain the contact information included in the visual message by parsing the visual message and to add the obtained contact information to the contacts list stored in the data storage component.

- - 26. The device of claim 25, wherein the visual message further includes a name associated with the contact information.
  - 27. The device of claim 26, wherein the processor is further programmed to obtain the name included in the visual message by parsing the visual message.
  - 28. The device of claim 27, wherein the processor is further programmed to add the obtained name to the contacts list stored in the data storage component of the device, wherein the name is associated with the obtained contact information in the contacts list.
  - 29. The device of claim 25, wherein the visual message includes a list of names and corresponding contact information.
  - 30. The device of claim 29, wherein the processor is programmed to add each name and corresponding contact information to the contacts list stored in the data storage component of the device.
  - 31. The device of claim 25, wherein the visual message is wirelessly transmitted to the device.
  - 32. The device of claim 25, wherein the visual message is an electronic mail message.
  - 33. The device of claim 32, wherein the contact information comprises an electronic mail address.
  - 34. The device of claim 25, wherein the processor is programmed to automatically add the obtained contact information to the contacts list stored in the memory.

35. A device comprising a system for updating an electronic address book stored in a storage unit of the device, the system comprising:
- receiving means for receiving a visual message transmitted to the device;
  
  determining means for determining whether the received message includes a list of one or more entries to be added to the address book, wherein an entry comprises a name and corresponding contact information; and
  
  storing means, operable if the determining means determines that a received visual message includes a list of one or more entries to be added to the address book, for storing the entries in the address book.

- - 36. The device of claim 35, wherein the corresponding contact information comprises an electronic mail address.
  - 37. The device of claim 35, wherein the determining means and the storing means are implemented using a processor.
  - 38. The device of claim 35, wherein the visual message is an electronic mail message.
  - 39. The device of claim 35, wherein the visual message is wirelessly transmitted to the device.
  - 40. The device of claim 35, wherein the list of entries included in the visual message is formatted according to a pre-defined format.
  - 41. The device of claim 35, wherein an entry within the list comprises a name immediately followed by contact information.

42. A method for automatically adding an entry to a contacts list stored in a memory of a device, wherein the contacts list includes a list of names and, for each name, corresponding contact information, comprising:
- receiving, at the device, a visual message transmitted to the device, the visual message including a header portion and a body portion, the body portion including contact information;
  
  storing the visual message in a memory of the device;
  
  after storing at least a portion of the body portion of the visual message in the memory, obtaining the contact information included in the body portion of the visual message by parsing the body portion of the visual message; and
  
  automatically adding the obtained contact information to the contacts list stored in the memory of the device.

- - 43. The method of claim 42, wherein the body portion of the visual message further includes a name associated with the contact information.
  - 44. The method of claim 43, wherein the name is the name of a person.
  - 45. The method of claim 43, further comprising the step of obtaining the name included in the body portion of the visual message by parsing the body portion of the visual message.
  - 46. The method of claim 45, further comprising automatically adding the obtained name to the contacts list stored in the memory of the device, wherein the name is associated with the obtained contact information in the contacts list.
  - 47. The method of claim 42, wherein the device comprises a processor, and wherein the processor is programmed to perform said steps of parsing the body portion of the visual message to obtain the contact information and adding the obtained contact information to the contacts list stored in the memory of the device.
  - 48. The method of claim 42, wherein the body portion of the message includes a list of names and corresponding addresses.
  - 49. The method of claim 48, further comprising the step of automatically adding each name and corresponding address to the contacts list stored in the memory of the device.
  - 50. The method of claim 49, wherein one or more of the corresponding addresses is an electronic mail address.
  - 51. The method of claim 42, wherein the visual message is an electronic mail message.
  - 52. The method of claim 42, wherein the device comprises a transmitter and a receiver.
  - 53. The method of claim 42, wherein the device is or comprises a mobile telephone.
