1. A method of calculating oxygen saturation from intensity signals resulting from light of first and second wavelengths attenuated by body tissue carrying pulsing blood, the method comprising:
- receiving at least a portion of an intensity signal from a light sensitive detector capable of detecting light attenuated by body tissue carrying pulsing blood;
transforming the intensity signals; and
calculating oxygen saturation by using the transformed intensity signals.

4. A pulse oximeter comprising:

an input for receiving a detector signal resulting from light of first and second wavelengths attenuated by body tissue carrying pulsing blood; and
