APPARATUS FOR SPRAYING LIQUIDS, AND DISPOSABLE CONTAINERS AND LINERS SUITABLE FOR USE THEREWITH
First Claim
1. A method of preparing a paint spray gun, the method comprising:
- (a) providing a paint spray gun, a liner, and a lid having a filter and an outlet;
(b) adding paint to the liner while the liner is upright;
(c) securing the lid and the liner to create a reservoir for the paint;
(d) inverting the spray gun and attaching it to the outlet of the lid;
(e) placing the spray gun in an upright position with the liner and the lid above the spray gun; and
(f) activating the spray gun to withdraw paint from the liner and through the filter and the outlet so as to spray the paint from the spray gun.

Abstract
A spray gun (1) has a fluid reservoir (11) with a removable liner (13) received in a container (12) having a detachable lid (15). The liner (13), which may be thermo/vacuum-formed from a planar material, has a shape that corresponds to and is a close fit within the interior of the container (12) and collapses as fluid is withdrawn from within the liner (13) during operation of the spray gun (1). The lid (15) has an outlet (16) connected to an inlet on the spray gun (1) for transfer of liquid from the reservoir (11) to the spray gun (1) and the container (12) has a vent (12A) in the base end for admitting air between the container (12) and the liner (13) as liquid is withdrawn from within the liner (13).

11. A method of preparing a paint spray gun, the method comprising:
-
(a) providing a paint spray gun, a liner, and a lid having an outlet and an integral filter that covers the outlet; (b) adding paint to the liner while the liner is upright; (c) securing the lid and the liner to create a reservoir for the paint; (d) inverting the spray gun and attaching it to the outlet of the lid; (e) purging air from the liner; and (f) with the liner and the lid above the spray gun, activating the spray gun to withdraw paint from the liner and through the filter and the outlet, wherein the liner collapses as paint is withdrawn from the liner, so as to spray the paint from the spray gun. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14)

15. A method of preparing a batch of paint, the method comprising:
-
(a) providing a measuring vessel having a bottom end, an open top end, a rim at the open top end, and markings that enable the volume of the contents of the measuring vessel to be determined; (b) providing a liner having an open end and a rim at its open end that corresponds in shape to the rim of the measuring vessel so that a batch of paint can be mixed in the measuring vessel without coming into contact therewith, wherein the shape of the liner renders the liner incapable of standing, unsupported, outside the measuring vessel; and (c) placing the liner inside the measuring vessel, whereby the markings on the measuring vessel account for space between the liner and the bottom end of the measuring vessel, whereby the measuring vessel may be used for preparing a batch of paint.

16. A method of providing a paint spraying system, the method comprising:
-
(a) providing an outer container having volumetric measurement indicia visible to a user; (b) providing a collapsible liner; (c) providing a lid for cooperative engagement with the liner, the lid comprising an outlet and a filter over the outlet to filter paint before it passes through the outlet; (d) placing the liner in the outer container, whereby the volumetric measurement indicia account for space between the liner and the outer container; (e) adding a volume of paint to the liner; and (f) securing the lid and the liner to a paint spray gun to enable paint to flow through the filter and the outlet and be dispensed by the spray gun. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)

21. A removable reservoir for a paint spray gun, the reservoir comprising:
-
(a) an outer container having a base, an open end at the top of the container, and an air vent; (b) a removable, self-supporting liner adapted to fit within the outer container, the liner having at least one side wall and a top opening, wherein the liner is adapted to collapse when paint is withdrawn from the liner during operation of the paint spray gun; and (c) a lid that covers the opening of the liner and that cooperates with the liner to form a fluid reservoir, the lid having an outlet and a filter that covers the outlet, whereby when the reservoir is connected to the spray gun paint is enabled to flow from inside the liner through the filter and the outlet to the spray gun. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27)
